The 2026 elections to the Riksdag, regional and municipal councils will be held on 13 September. Here you can find important dates and events ahead of the elections.
Voting
Key dates relating to voters and voting in the 2026 elections.

10 June | Register on the electoral roll. If you have been removed from the electoral roll, you must register with the Swedish Tax Agency to automatically receive your international voting card and postal voting materials. |
7 July | The Swedish Election Authority begins sending international voting cards to those who have emigrated and are entitled to vote in the 2026 Riksdag elections. |
25 July | Final day for the Swedish Election Authority to send out international voting cards. International voting cards must be sent out no later than 50 days before election day. |
30 July | Voters may begin sending postal votes from abroad. |
30 July | The Swedish Election Authority sends digital international voting cards to voters living abroad. This applies to those who are entitled to vote in the Riksdag elections and have a Swedish digital mailbox. |
14 August | The right to vote in the 2026 elections is determined. |
15 August | The Swedish Election Authority begins sending out voting cards within Sweden. |
20 August | Voting by messenger in Sweden begins. |
20 August | Early voting abroad begins. |
26 August | If you live in Sweden and are entitled to vote in any of the 2026 elections, you should have received your voting card. |
26 August | Early voting in Sweden begins. |
1 September | Final day to request corrections to the electoral roll. |
12 September | Postal votes from Swedes abroad who are not on the electoral roll must have been received by the Swedish Election Authority. |
12 September | The County Administrative Board announces the time and place for the final vote count. |
13 September | Election day. Voting locations are open between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Preliminary result in the election to the Riksdag on election night. |
14 September | The County Administrative Board begins the final vote count. |
14 September | Final day on which a postal vote can be received by the Election Authority. |
16 September | Postal votes with a voting card must have been received by the municipality. |
16 September | Collection vote count carried out by municipalities. Late early votes and late votes from abroad are counted. |
Weekend after election | The final result of the Riksdag election is expected to be ready. |
2 weeks after election | The final results of the municipal and regional elections are expected to be finalised. |
