Frequently asked questions

Here you can find answers to frequently asked questions about how the election results are produced and when they will be finalised.

    • When will the election results be ready?

The preliminary results of the Riksdag election are published on val.se on election night. The results are then updated as municipal election committees count votes that did not arrive in time for election day.

The final results are usually ready the weekend after election day, once the County Administrative Boards have completed the final vote count.

    • What is the difference between preliminary and final election results?

Preliminary results come from the vote count at voting locations on election day and the collection count carried out by the municipal election committee on the Wednesday after the election. This includes late early votes.

Final results are compiled by the County Administrative Boards. They recount all votes, including personal votes, and assess whether votes are valid or invalid. The final result is the official result once it has been decided by the Swedish Election Authority.

    • Where can I find results for my region or municipality?

On val.se, you can view results for the whole country, each region and each municipality. In the election presentations, select the type of election – Riksdag, regional or municipal – and then choose the region or municipality you want to view.

The full result presentation is available in Swedish.

    • Why can the election results change after election night?

The vote count continues after election night. Late early votes and votes from abroad are counted, and all votes are checked.

This may result in slight changes to parties’ vote shares and seat allocation before the final results are ready.
